Rayners Farm – What’s the story?
Rayners Farm was one of the first farms established in Mattishall, and the original farmhouse dates all the way back to the early 1800s.
To put that into context, Rayners Farm is understood to have been built more than 30 years before Chicago became officially listed as a town.

Mattishall – A brief history…
The villages name probably means, ‘Matt’s nook of land’.
Evidence of human activity reaches back to the period between 8000 and 1000 BC. The discovery in 1968 of a hoard of 110 silver coins provides a link with the Roman period.
During the reign of Edward VI (1547-53), cleric Matthew Parker married Margaret Harlestone of Mattishall. He became the first Archbishop of Canterbury to be appointed under Elizabeth I. Local tradition has it that the house behind the butcher’s shop in Church Plain was the Harlestone family home.
The fortunes and well being of the villagers have fluctuated over the centuries. In 1835 the family of Sir William Edward Parry, the polar explorer, occupied South Green House (now Mattishall Hall) for a few months. On half pay from the navy, he was sent to Norfolk as an Assistant Commissioner for the New Poor Law.
More modern developments have seen the introduction of a memorial hall, a sports and social club, new school buildings on a large site and a surgery, pharmacy, hairdressers and local shops.

The Norfolk Coast is a wonderful spot to visit all year round with the stunning beaches and varied seaside towns to suit all tastes. The winter months make for a lovely coastal walk and are the perfect time to visit the seals at Blakeney Point.
The historic city of Norwich really does hold some incredible sights including the medieval Elm Hill and Tombland and the imposing Norwich Cathedral. The towns of Holt, Aylsham and Burnham Market also make for a lovely day out!
We have a huge number of stately homes such as Blickling Hall, The Royal Sandringham Estate and Holkham Hall, the latter of which you can explore on foot or enjoy a leisurely bike ride. For the more adventurous there is a play area and High Ropes challenges to.
Pensthorpe, Bewilderwood & Thetford Forest High Lodge are great nature themed, adventure days out and Pleasurewood Hills, Petitts Animal Park & Yarmouth Pleasure Beach are Theme Parks ideal for thrill seekers of all ages.

Mattishall is a picturesque village with many local amenities including a pub, two cafes, golf course, convenience store & some lovely walking routes also.
Rayners Lodge is in a peaceful setting and is located down a long private driveway ensuring distance and privacy from the main road with a free dedicated parking area for up to 4 cars.
